Blend of synchronous and asynchronous days

Students at FSOA experience learning through a unique model that includes both synchronous classes through Google Meets and asynchronous (independent) time for learning.   Most synchronous classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with some students also attending synchronous classes on Mondays and Fridays.   Asynchronous learning time takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. 

Access to in-person learning opportunities 

Students are able to receive one-on-one support through in-person and virtual learning labs.   These take place throughout the week, and allow our students to receive the individualized, personalized support they need to find success!  

For socialization and enrichment, students can also attend Peer Engagement on Wednesday mornings.   Every week, we offer a variety of sessions that students can choose from -- everything from weight lifting, ceramics, karaoke, and board games!   We also offer hands-on field trips every quarter.

In-person Learning Lab and Peer Engagement are *optional* for students.   We do require that all students attend an in-person orientation when they enroll.  Additionally, all state assessments (such as CMAS, PSAT, and SAT) are in-person.

Our building is a unique space that feels more like a community center than a traditional school!   We offer flexible learning areas, a shared kitchen, and even a work-out center.   We’d love to show you more -- just sign up for a tour here! 

Our courses are aligned to the standards for all Adams 12 courses, ensuring that our students are prepared to be successful when they transition schools  and when they graduate!    Specific curricular resources vary by course and grade level.

All FSOA students are provided with a Chromebook, which will allow them to access all classes and course materials.  

Families are responsible for ensuring that students have internet access at home; we can help connect families to low-cost internet solutions as needed. 

Some of our students come in person three days per week, and other students find success working solely from the comfort of home.   Check out our bell schedule to see what the learning options are and design each week in a way that works for you!

Even though students have flexibility about when and where they complete some of their coursework, the amount of time spent will be similar to the amount of time spent learning in a  brick & mortar school.

• Synchronous Learning Days: Student attendance for virtual classes will be based on joining and participating in class through Google Meets.   
• Asynchronous Learning Days:  Students are assigned independent (asynchronous) course work every Tuesday.  This work is due the following Monday night at midnight, and  students’ attendance for asynchronous learning days is based on their work completion.

In addition to core classes in English, Math, Social Studies, and Science, students are able to select from a wide range of elective offerings.  These electives include physical education, health, computer science, business & marketing, art (including digital photography), and more!   A complete list of our courses can be found here.

Advanced Placement Courses

High School students also have access to a variety of Advanced Placement (AP Courses); some of these are taught by FSOA teachers, and others are taught in partnership with Colorado Digital Learning Solutions.   Specific course offerings each year are listed in our course selection guide.

Absolutely!  Students at FSOA are able to participate in athletic teams at the Adams 12 middle or high school that is closest to their residence.  You can find more information in our District Policy 6250 Section 6.1.

Absolutely!  Each year, a significant number of our high school students explore hands-on learning at our district CTE campuses.   

Yes!  We offer Student Government/Leadership and Yearbook as co-curricular activities as well as a variety of after-school, virtual clubs.  You can learn more about our clubs here.
