FSOA: Family Technology Updates

FSOA: Family Technology Updates

As we launch a new school year, we also wanted to take a moment to send out some reminders and updates related to technology for both remote and in-person learning opportunities.   This includes an updated cell phone policy, which is described below.

GoGuardian

Our teachers use GoGuardian as a tool to support students when they are using technology during class time.  Below is a letter that provides more information about GoGuardian and how it is used at FSOA.

YouTube:  Student Access

As a result of changing YouTube Terms of Service, students in Adams 12 will no longer be able to directly access YouTube while on site or when using a district device.

Cell Phone and PTD (Personal Technology Device) Policy

Over the summer, our district policy regarding Personal Technology Devices (PTDs), including cell phones, was updated.   Our students have been responding respectfully and positively to the change, and we wanted to update our parents / guardians as our partners in the learning process.  As a reminder, you can always call the school directly at 720-972-7430 if you need to contact your child while they are in person.

At Home

  • Please help your student find a way to minimize distractions from phones and other PTDs.

  • We recommend having a separate location for students to store their phones during class time, to minimize distractions.

Peer Engagement

  • Students need to keep phones and other PTDs “away for the day” during Peer Engagement.  This means they are

    • On silent / turned off

    • Out of site (not on desks / in hands)

    • Not used between 8:00 - 12:00

  • Students will be able to use their phones to contact parents / guardians after 12:00.

Learning Lab

  • Students need to keep phones and other PTDs “away for the day” during Learning Lab.  This means they are

    • On silent / turned off

    • Out of site (not on desks / in hands)

    • Only used during one designated morning / afternoon break and during lunch from 12:00 - 12:30.   Use must be respectful and in accordance with district technology guidelines.

  • If students need to contact a parent/guardian for a ride home, they can ask the school principal or assistant principal for permission to do so from a designated contact zone.

A Special Note on Headphones

  • Wireless headphones (such as AirPods) are not permitted.

  • Students should bring headphones with cords to Learning Lab to listen to class content.   We have some loaners available for students;  however, our supply is limited.  There are many low-cost options available online.
