FOSA 11/18 Secondary Parent Comminucation

**This communication is for students in grades 6-12.  Information for our elementary students will be in a separate email.**

Dear Phoenix Families, 

We hope that you enjoy this upcoming Thanksgiving Break and are able to spend time with your friends and family.   As a school community, we are so thankful for the students we have the opportunity to serve every day.  Thank you for trusting us with your child’s learning and for being part of our school community. 

When we return from break, there are three short weeks before the end of first semester.   We would encourage students to review their course progress, spend some time completing any outstanding/incomplete work, and stay focused as we move toward end-of-semester projects and exams.   We also hope that our students are able to join us for the Winter Celebration on December 15th to engage in some fun and celebrate their hard work this semester.

End of Semester / Final Exam Schedule

At the end of first semester, we will have an adjusted schedule to account for final exams and a Winter Break celebration!

• Finals will take place on Tuesday, December 13th and Wednesday, December 14th.  For the complete schedule, click here. 

  • All high school classes will have a final exam or culminating project

  • All middle school classes will have a final exam, unit exam, or culminating project

  • Students will be required to log into class and take the exams during the time shown.  

  • Please note that exams are intended to be 60 minutes in length.  Extra time (+50%) is built into this schedule, to allow for students who have an accommodation on their 504 or IEP.  

• All students (grades 2-12) are invited to join us for a special in-person Winter Celebration on Thursday, December 15th.

Peer Engagement for 11/30

We have exciting new sessions planned for secondary engagement for Wednesday, November 30th from 8:00 - 12:00.

• Reptile Show!   Canyon Critters will be bringing a variety of reptiles and other critters for a demonstration and session with our students.   

• Want to learn how light bulbs work?  In our STEM sessions, students will explore electronics through circuit building. 

• Art:  Students will explore making jewelry from unusual materials -- like what you might find in your garage!

• Explore Australia as we learn about different cultures around the world. 

• Want a workout?  We will be leading HIIT classes for students.  

• Bingo, Charades, Blooket, Puzzles, Trading Cards, and more!  

There will also be a virtual option for students who can’t attend in-person.  This will take place from 11:00 - 11:50 and links were sent out through Advisory / Schoology pages.

Mark Your Calendars: Winter Celebration

• We are excited to celebrate the end of first semester with a Winter Celebration on Thursday, December15. 

• Students in grades 2–12 are invited to the ESC from  8-12pm to participate in crafts, games, and win prizes.  We hope to see your student there!
