**This communication is for students in grades 6-12 at FSOA. Information for our elementary students will be in a separate email. Students enrolled at Five Star College Now should disregard.**

Dear FSOA Parents/Guardians and Students, 

It’s hard to believe we just finished our second week of school! Hopefully, things you and your family are settling back into your school routines. As a reminder, we send weekly updates every Friday afternoon to families and students, in order to share important information and upcoming events.

MAPS Testing - Wednesday, August 28th

  • Our first school assessment day is this Wednesday, August 28th. There will be no peer engagement on August 28th. 
  • Who:
    • ALL 6th to 9th graders
    • 10th to 12th-grade students on an IEP or in an ELD class
  • What: 
    • Reading and Math MAPs assessments.
  • Option 1:  Most students will be testing virtually
    • When: 8:00 AM to 12 PM
  • Option 2:  Students on IEPS, students in an ELD class, or any students who prefer in-person are invited to test in-person. 
    • When: 8:00 AM to 12 PM
    • Where: 1865 W. 121st Avenue, #100C.   

Looking Ahead to After Labor Day

  • Since there will be no school Monday, September 2th and Tuesday, September 3th, we will be adjusting our weekly schedule and work submission deadlines. 
    • On Tuesday, August 27th, secondary teachers will assign asynchronous work that will be due on Monday, September 9th.   No work will be due on 9/2 or 9/3.
    • On Wednesday, September 4th, we will be running a TUESDAY bell schedule. There will be no Peer Engagement this date. 

Mark Your Calendars + Attend the Meeting

  • Additional funding is needed to address the priorities outlined in Blueprint, and the district may ultimately ask voters to decide on how best to fund them. 
  • Join us at the upcoming board meeting where the Board of Education is scheduled to vote on whether to place the $830 million bond proposal and/or the $34.5 million mill levy override proposal on the November ballot. 
    • When: August 28 at 7:00 p.m.
    • Where: Educational Support Center, 1500 E. 128th Ave. in Thornton
    • Why: Listen and/or provide public comment 

Multicultural Night Sign-up

  • Join us at our 2nd Annual Multicultural Night on Wednesday, October 23! We invite families to share and celebrate their unique heritage by signing up to host a table booth or perform. Your participation will help us create a vibrant and diverse experience for everyone in our school.
