**This communication is for students in grades 6-12.  Information for elementary students will be in a separate email.**

Dear Five Star Online Parents and Students, 

It’s been exciting to see our students both virtually and in our in-person learning labs this week!   Starting on August 31st, we will also launch our initial Secondary Engagement Day.   Please see below for more details about this event and also other important updates.

Please note that on days when students aren’t engaged in synchronous learning, they should be completing asynchronous coursework (in Edmentum or Schoology).   For most courses, students should plan to spend about four to five hours per week, per course to complete this work.  If your student has any questions, please have them contact the instructor.

Free and Reduced Benefits

We recommend that all families complete an application to receive free and reduced benefits.   This allows students and families to have some fees waived or reduced, which may include

  • Field trip fees

  • Athletic fees (for those participating in athletics at a brick & mortar school)

  • Reduced fees for Advanced Placement testing (high school only)

  • Course material fees

Secondary Engagement Days

We are excited to roll out our Wednesday Secondary Engagement Days!  Please see the information below for more details about our first in-person enrichment opportunity.

  • What? Secondary In-Person Engagement Day

  • When? Begins Wednesday, August 31, continues every following Wednesday

    •  8:00am-12:00pm

  • Where? ESC (1500 E 128th Ave Thornton, CO 80241)

  • Who? All FSOA Secondary students

  • What to Bring? Charged chromebook, comfortable shoes and clothing, water bottle or snacks 

Students are welcome to attend from 8:00am-12:00pm.  The expectation is for students to attend the entire time.  During this time, students will be rotating through several stations including:

  • Learning lab- time for students to work on assignments or get help from teachers

  • Engagement activities- tabletop games, coloring, Future Business Leaders of America, coding, walk and talk, puzzles, art, book buddies

  • In the future we also plan to offer- music sessions, coffee crew, improv, yard games, speech and debate, fitness, multicultural activities, crafting, math games, and other sessions.  

  • Field trip opportunities (to be determined) 

In addition, students will have the opportunity to connect with their peers, learn new skills, and connect with Five Star Online Staff.   Please note that students in grades 6-9 will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian or someone with pick-up authorization on file.
